Although there is broad support in the current Brazilian legislation and many curricular documents published in the last three decades, we still face the challenge of the inclusive education in our classrooms. This is a qualitative research in which we investigate the perception of three school pedagogical coordinators about the inclusion of disabled children in regular classes of Elementary and High School of the schools that self-declared favorable to the Inclusive Education. The results suggest perceptions of Inclusive Education with specific (...) goal to comply with current legislation, which aims exclusively at the socialization of the disabled as a target of charity, without great teaching learning goals that allow equal access to school knowledge and continuity of study in the educational system. O preconceito e a discriminação contra pessoas com deficiência no contexto da maternidade e maternagem são frequentes na contemporaneidade. No entanto, é fundamental reconhecer perspectivas capacitistas - que negam às mulheres com deficiências físicas, sensoriais ou cognitivas oportunidades de constituírem famílias ou terem filhos - são infundadas e injustas. Embora desconstruído por histórias reais de mães com deficiência, tais discriminações não as impede de praticarem a maternagem. Este trabalho analisa representações da deficiência e da maternagem nas redes sociais, especificamente na (...) plataforma de mídia social Instagram. Para isso, analisamos o perfil @familiadaptada, criado por Suellen Gomes Calixto, que tem a doença de Charcot-Marie-Tooth, uma forma de distrofia muscular. Nossa análise objetivou compreender as experiências de uma mãe com deficiência - compartilhadas em seu perfil no Instagram - e os modos como esse conteúdo contribui significativamente para construirmos uma nova compreensão do que seria a maternagem vivenciada por pessoas com deficiência. However, it is essential to recognize that ableist perspectives denying women with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities the opportunity to start a family or have children are unfounded and unjustified. This discrimination, although challenged by real stories of mothers with disabilities, does not necessarily prevent them from performing mothering practices. This work analyzes the portrayal of disability and mothering on social media, specifically on the social media platform Instagram. To accomplish this, we analyzed the profile @familiadaptada, created by Suellen Gomes Calixto, who has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a form of muscular dystrophy. Our analysis aimed at understanding of the experiences of a mother with disability, shared on Instagram, and how this content significantly contributes to shaping a new concept of mothering for people with disabilities. We develop a semiotic scheme of time, in which time precipitates from the repeated succession of punctuating the progressive tense by the perfect tense. The underlying principle is communication among local participants. Time can thus be seen as a meaning-making, semiotic system in which different time codes are delineated, each having its own grammar and timekeeping. The four time codes discussed are the following: the subjective time having tense, the objective time without tense, the static time without timekeeping, and the (...) inter-subjective time of the E-series. Living organisms adopt a time code called the E-series, which emerges through the local synchronization among organisms or parts of organisms. The inter-subjective time is a new theoretical dimension resulting from the time-aligning activities of interacting agents. Such synchronization in natural settings consists of incessant mutual corrections and adjustments to one’s own punctuation, which is then constantly updated. Unlike the third-person observer keeping the objective time while sitting outside a clock, the second-person negotiators participate in forming the E-series time by punctuating and updating the interface through which different tenses meet at the moment of “now.” Although physics allows physicists to be the only interpreters, the semiotic perspective upends the physical perspective by letting local participants be involved in the interpretation of their mutual negotiations to precipitate that which is called time. Anticipatory acts or predictive behavior are prerequisites for living organisms to sustain their survival when escaping from a predator, catching prey, or schooling. For example, catching prey requires that the predator perform some procedures that are equivalent to estimating the directional movement of the prey, its speed and its distance relative to the predator. Underlying these procedures is time experience, which does not adhere to man-made mechanical clocks. Living organisms keep time based on the local activities of each participant and (...) form ecological clocks together. The timekeeping of ecological clocks has been called E-series time, which is interactive in character and consists of mutual alignment of timing that is co-adjusted to each other’s movements and rhythms. A main objective of our current work is to illustrate how E-series time is used for flows of anticipatory acts. To explain such predictive moves and their efforts based on how the perspective of the immediate future affects the present, we resort to the organismic activity of revising the preceding acts in retrospect and semiotic scaffolding that extends beyond simple linear causality. Special attention is paid to the construction of the notion of retrocausal scaffolding, which is a series of dialogical punctuations or mutual coordination of rhythms for the joint production of the present moment of now. Retrocausal scaffolding is synonymous with negotiated anticipation, which is a semiotic/communicative account of revising the preceding acts in the present moment. (shrink)

Timing adjustment is an important ability for living organisms. Wild animals need to act at the right moment to catch prey or escape a predator. Land plants, although limited in their movement, need to decide the right time to grow and bloom. Humans also need to decide the right moment for social actions. Although scientists can pinpoint the timing of such behaviors by observation, we know extremely little about how living organisms as actors or players decide when to act – (...) such as the exact moment to dash or pounce. The time measurements of an outsider-observer and the insider-participants are utterly different. We explain how such essential operations of timing adjustment and temporal spanning, both of which constitute a single regulated set, can be carried out among organisms. For this purpose, we have to reexamine the ordinary conception of time. Our specific explanatory tools include the natural movement known as the upbeat (anacrusis) in music, a rhythmic push for the downbeat that follows, which predicts future moves as an anticipatory lead-in. The scheme is situated in and is the extension of our formulation of E-series time, i.e., timing co-adjusted through interaction, which is derived from the semiotic/communicative perspectives. We thereby demonstrate that a prediction-based timing system is not mechanical but communicative and entails meanings for future anticipation. (shrink)

This paper surveys the results established so far by the on-going research on the planetary theories in Arabic astronomy. The most important results of the Maragha astronomers are gathered here for the first time, and new areas for future research are delineated. The conclusions reached demonstrate that the Arabic astronomical works mentioned here not only elaborate the connection between Arabic astronomy and Copernicus, but also that such activities, namely the continuous reformulation of Greek astronomy, were not limited to a specific (...) group of astronomers or to a specific geographical area. It is shown that such activities were spread over a period of more than seven hundred years, from the early eleventh till the sixteenth century, and over an area stretching from the Andalusian peninsula in the west to the farthest reaches of Central Asia in the east. In this article the author analyzes a fifteenth-century Arabic reform of the Ptolemaic model for Mercury. The author of the reform was the Central Asian Al al-D who, in his youth, had been instructed in the mathematical sciences by none other than the famous Central Asian monarch Ulugh Beg (1394 has been yet identified to have produced a theoretical text devoted to the criticism, let alone the reform, of the Ptolemaic mathematical planetary models. The present article on Qushji's reform of (...) the Ptolemaic model for Mercury includes a critical first edition of Qushji's Arabic text, an English translation, and a historical and technical commentary. Este artículo presenta el descubrimiento de un texto hasta ahora desconocido, llamado al-lstidrāk, obra de un astrónomo anónimo andalusí del siglo XI que conoció personalmente a Azarquiel y que planteó sus dudas acerca de la tradición astronómica griega. Sobre la base de este nuevo texto, el artículo pone en cuestión la idea que se ha venido manteniendo de que la tradición astronómica islámica fue sobre todo filosófica en al-Andalus y más matemática en Oriente. Se aducen además datos de ambos lados (...) del Mediterráneo que demuestran que hubo una continuidad y unos contactos entre los dos extremos. El artículo mantiene que la falacia en esta caracterización de la astronomía islámica proviene de una falsa comparación entre las obras de filósofos occidentales con la de astrónomos orientales; cuando se comparan las obras astronómicas del Este y del Oeste queda claro que fueron los mismos problemas los que se plantearon en obras astronómicas en todo el orbe islámico. También se hace evidente que astrónomos orientales como Ibn al-Shāṭir de Damasco estaban sensibilizados a las mismas cuestiones filosóficas que preocupaban a los filósofos andalusíes y respondieron a estas cuestiones con sus propias respuestas filosóficas.
